Welcome to The Gauntlet, an incredible opportunity for students to polish their portfolios, sharpen their business acumen, and grow as individuals before they begin the real test: trying to get a job.
This special event gives participants a head-start on life in two parts. First, students receive personal tours of top local agencies, in which they’ll also get advice and guidance on what to expect after graduation. Second, students receive valuable feedback on their portfolios from industry veterans. Work will reviewed and critiqued just as it would in an internal agency meeting.
Here’s how it works: The first two Fridays in April, groups of students will visit a different participating Charlotte design studio. The last two Fridays will be devoted to portfolio reviews, and students will have their works critiqued by different sets of seasoned eyes. This year’s list of star-studded agencies includes Atypic, BOLTGROUP, and MODE.
The whole thing may sound a little scary, like a medieval trial of great danger, but we promise it’s not. It’s a chance to grow, to learn from people who are passionate about design, and to check out the inner workings of local agencies. There aren’t any Mountains of Doom or fire-breathing dragons. In fact most participating creatives have very nice breath.
