It has been a very bizarre and challenging year for job seekers (and by default, recruiters as well). We know that many of the layoffs earlier this year, especially in the tech sector, were in-house talent acquisition staff. And while the tech sector continues its ‘market correction’, the fall out from the pandemic ecommerce bonanza that lead to over ambitious hiring and unsustainable compensation offers, other industries are finally finding their feet.
According to Marketing Talent Inc. President, Craig Lund, a recent uptick in client inquiries indicates that we should expect to see a more stable hiring market, and one where companies are poised to see growth once again.
Lund mentions that often the first people to see trends of recovery or recessions are recruiters, particularly sales and marketing recruiters. “Recruiters are like the canaries in the coal mines, they’re the first to see when the market is sending signals that their teams are going to retract or grow.”
As for the bizarre and sluggish year. Lund attributes this to overall leadership fatigue brought on from three years of constant pivots due to macroeconomic trends. A Global Pandemic, Supply Chain woes further exacerbated by the Ukraine War, the Tech Correction in the fall of 2022 and now locally the hightended cost of borrowing & overall inflation.
To help shift the mindsets for job seekers who have been struggling with their job search, Marketing Talent Inc. and other sales and marketing recruiting companies all are reporting that they’re noticing a significant uptick in hiring inquiries from prospective employers, a sign that bodes well for job seekers. Generally, we experience these trends in a seasonal fashion, but this year has been anomalous and unpredictable. So will hiring pick up in Q4? Trends indicate yes and we should see more marketing jobs hitting the market.
So, keep at it. Ensure you’re keeping your foot on the gas over the next 5-6 weeks as you may well see a bunch of new opportunities opening up before year end, and most certainly for Q1.
